2012-06-23
CAHILL, Sister Imelda CSJ (Catherine Mary) - Died peacefully at St. Joseph's Motherhouse on Saturday, June 23, 2012 in the 75th year of her religious life. She is predeceased by her parents, Clement Cahill and Catherine Cecilia O'Hara, by her sister Mary and her brothers, Raymond, Bernard, John and Father Lawrence. She will be dearly missed by her sister Patricia Howorth, and many nieces and nephews. Sister Imelda entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1936, and served in the ministry of education for forty years as teacher and then as principal at St. Joseph's High School, Islington, for seventeen years. On her retirement as principal, she was immediately elected as Congregational Leader for two consecutive four-year terms. After a one-year sabbatical, she served as Local Leader for the Infirmary at the Motherhouse before moving to St. Joseph's College for four years. Since 1997, Sister Imelda has lived in our Infirmary and her ministry has been one of prayer for the needs of the community and the world.
Sr. Imelda was a dedicated, loving, generous, faithful nun, educator, lady who treated each person "special". It was always my pleasure working with her. (Fr. John Vetere)
